China, Russia Celebrate 25-Year Treaty, Strengthen Strategic Alliance

China and Russia have commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, emphasizing their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and reinforcing long-term strategic collaboration. The treaty, initially signed on July 16, 2001, and subsequently extended, serves as the legal framework for the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Chinese officials highlighted their intention to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, aiming to bolster global stability and instill confidence in development. As both countries gear up to celebrate 30 years of their strategic partnership in 2026, they continue to strengthen ties, with China holding the position of Russia’s largest trading partner for the past 16 years.

Trade relations between China and Russia have been on an upward trajectory, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $228 billion in 2025. The first half of 2026 saw a significant increase in commerce compared to the same period the previous year, reflecting the growing economic interdependence between the two countries.

Officials and analysts assert that the treaty has been instrumental in bolstering political trust and expanding economic cooperation between China and Russia. They describe the partnership as grounded in the principles of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and mutual benefit, contributing to a more balanced international order.
