China is urging the United States and Iran to maintain dialogue and prevent further escalation of tensions, emphasizing negotiation as the optimal path forward. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the fragile nature of the current ceasefire but insisted that discussions hold more promise than conflict. He also expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Saudi Arabia to ease tensions and promote lasting stability in the region.

In recent talks held in Beijing with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, both nations underscored the crucial importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. This strategic waterway is vital to global energy supplies, with a considerable portion of the world’s oil and gas shipments passing through it. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point in the dialogue between Iran and the United States following disruptions in shipping activities due to heightened tensions.

China, heavily reliant on energy imports from the Gulf, has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the disputes affecting the Strait. The Chinese government’s call for restraint and continued negotiations reflects its interest in maintaining stable energy supply routes, essential for its economic needs.

The meeting between the Chinese and Saudi foreign ministers also delved into enhancing cooperation across various domains, including trade, investment, energy, technology, and supply chains. These discussions align with broader efforts to bolster regional security and enhance bilateral relations between China and Saudi Arabia.
