Hong Kong and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement to establish a mutual visa-free travel policy, enabling citizens from both regions to visit each other for up to 30 days without needing a visa. This arrangement was solidified through an exchange of official notes witnessed by Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee and Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. Both governments are now focusing on the implementation details, aiming to roll out the arrangement as promptly as possible.
Currently, Hong Kong passport holders enjoy a visa-free entry into Uzbekistan for a period of up to 10 days, while Uzbek passport holders must obtain a visa to visit Hong Kong. The new arrangement is anticipated to enhance economic, trade, tourism, educational, and business connections between the two regions. It aligns with Hong Kong’s strategy to bolster partnerships with emerging Central Asian markets, demonstrating a broader effort to expand its international cooperation.
The travel industry has already shown keen interest in the announcement, with tour operators ramping up the variety of travel packages available to Uzbekistan and other destinations within Central Asia.
