US President Donald Trump has described his recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “very productive,” highlighting discussions on artificial intelligence (AI) and potential future cooperation between the United States and China. The meeting, held at the White House on September 24, marked the second encounter between the two leaders in under six months, as both nations continue to advance their AI technologies while considering safeguards and oversight.

During the talks, Trump noted that AI was a key topic, suggesting that President Xi appeared open to his preference for referring to advanced artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence.” Meanwhile, Xi emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation between Washington and Beijing in the AI sector, citing the significant capabilities both countries possess in this field. He argued that while competition exists, it should be complemented by collaboration and dialogue.

Xi also proposed discussions on the potential risks and benefits associated with AI, advocating for joint efforts to prevent its misuse and abuse. He stressed the necessity of maintaining human control over AI development to ensure it serves broader human interests.

This meeting underscores the ongoing dialogue between the United States and China regarding AI, a rapidly evolving area that holds significant implications for both countries. The leaders’ discussions reflect a shared understanding of the importance of balancing innovation with ethical considerations and oversight.
