In a bid to de-escalate rising tensions between Iran and the United States, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged both nations to exercise restraint and re-engage in diplomatic negotiations during his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing. Wang emphasized the importance of adhering to existing agreements and resuming dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts that have broader implications for international stability.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Wang called for the reopening of the vital waterway, which serves as a key passage for global energy supplies and international shipping routes. He stressed that maintaining security and accessibility in this region is crucial for sustaining global supply chains.
In addition to addressing the U.S.-Iran tensions, Wang advocated for regional stability by urging neighboring countries to prevent the spread of conflict to areas such as Yemen and the Red Sea. He emphasized that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation rather than military confrontation.
Expressing Iran’s position, Araghchi conveyed Tehran’s willingness to return to diplomatic channels, asserting that Iran does not wish for the conflict to persist.
