Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with other senior leaders, participated in a ceremony at Tian’anmen Square in Beijing on Wednesday to honor national heroes and martyrs on Martyrs’ Day. This annual observance, held on September 30, commemorates those who sacrificed their lives for China’s national independence, development, and prosperity.

The ceremony, taking place a day before China’s National Day, included a moment of silence following the national anthem. Nine large flower baskets were laid at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, symbolizing respect and gratitude for those who have given their lives for the country. Xi Jinping has been attending the Martyrs’ Day ceremony every year since it was officially established in 2014.

Representatives from various sectors of Chinese society also took part in the event, reflecting a collective remembrance of the nation’s past sacrifices. This year’s ceremony coincides with two significant anniversaries in China: the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the conclusion of the Long March, a pivotal military retreat that took place from 1934 to 1936.
