China has emphasized its intention to bolster ties with Central Asian countries, highlighted during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Kyrgyzstan. The meetings, which also involved officials from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, concentrated on enhancing collaboration through platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations.
During discussions in Kyrgyzstan, China pledged its support for the country’s upcoming hosting of the SCO Bishkek Summit, assuring continued backing for Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both nations agreed to strengthen cooperation on regional peace, security, and development, showcasing China’s commitment to being a supportive partner in the region.
Conversations with Uzbekistan placed particular emphasis on the development of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway, a project seen as pivotal for regional connectivity. Additionally, both parties explored expanding cooperation into emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development, reflecting a shared interest in technological and economic advancements.
In engagements with Tajikistan, a mutual commitment to deepen bilateral ties was reaffirmed. Both countries are aiming to enhance practical cooperation in fields like energy and regional connectivity. This follows the signing of a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty earlier this year, indicating a solid foundation for future collaboration.
The visit highlights China’s growing strategic partnership with Central Asia, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, trade, technological innovation, and ensuring regional stability. It underscores China’s role as a key player in fostering multilateral cooperation and development in the region.
