In a milestone that marks 55 years of diplomatic relations, Türkiye and China are strengthening their bonds, focusing on collaboration in trade, connectivity, technology, and energy. The partnership, rooted in centuries of interaction dating back to the historic Silk Road, is now more robust than ever, according to Türkiye’s Ambassador to China, Selçuk Ünal. This ancient trade route historically linked the two civilizations through commerce, cultural exchanges, and diplomatic engagements.

Formal diplomatic ties were established in 1971, and since then, the relationship has seen substantial growth. Today, China stands as Türkiye’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $50 billion each year. The connectivity between the two countries has also seen a boost, highlighted by an increase in passenger and cargo flights connecting major cities. Türkiye has further expanded its diplomatic footprint in China with multiple consulates, which underscores their growing economic engagement.

Ambassador Ünal highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation in crucial sectors such as artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, and commerce. Both nations are aligned in their views on numerous international and regional matters, prioritizing peace, stability, development, and the prevention of conflicts. These shared perspectives are pivotal as the countries work towards enhancing their strategic partnership.

Under the strategic vision laid out by the leaders of both Türkiye and China, the nations are committed to advancing their partnership, focusing on long-term economic growth and regional cooperation. The relationship, which has evolved significantly over the decades, continues to build on a foundation of mutual respect and shared goals, aiming to foster greater collaboration and understanding in the years to come.
